Wildlife Rehabilitation Abstracts

Each abstract gives a brief description of the documents associated with the Provisional Guidelines and Sponsor Guidelines.

Development of Guidelines for Obtaining a Provisional Wildlife Rehabilitation License and Guidelines for Sponsoring a Provisional Wildlife Rehabilitator – Describes the reasons for and resources used in the development of these guidelines and resources. (Guideline Development Explanation )

Flow Chart – There are many steps involved in applying for and being issued a provisional wildlife rehabilitation license and a wildlife rehabilitation license. Letter from Sponsor for Provisional Applicant – Provisional wildlife rehabilitation applicants are required to arrange for a sponsor and submit a letter from the sponsor with their application. This is a sample of a sponsor’s letter tailored for a specific applicant. (Example Sponsor Letter )

Learning Plan for a Provisional Wildlife Rehabilitator – Example I – Provides another example of a learning plan used for provisional wildlife rehabilitators.  This list of items is based on Chapter 14 Wildlife Rehabilitation Regulations and essential in designing a learning plan for provisional wildlife rehabilitators is based. Learning Plan for a Provisional Wildlife Rehabilitator – Example II – Provides an example of a learning plan used for provisional wildlife rehabilitators. The learning plan should be specific to the applicant. (Example Learning Plan 2 )

Consulting Agreement from Veterinarian for All Provisional and Wildlife Rehabilitators - All Provisional and fully licensed Wildlife Rehabilitators are required to arrange for veterinary support and must submit a copy of the consulting agreement from their veterinarian. The consulting agreement form is contained within the application form and online. (Veterinarian Consulting Agreement )

Sponsor Referral Form – When the provisional and sponsor agree that the provisional is ready to apply for his or her full permit, the sponsor prepares a referral to the Special Licensing Unit. That referral is submitted with the provisional’s application for an upgrade. This format allows the sponsor and provisional to record learning and accomplishments for CPW review. Sponsor Referral Form – Example – This example of the sponsor’s completed referral form documents what the provisional has learned and reasons that the sponsor believes that the provisional is ready for an upgrade to full rehabilitation license. (Example Sponsor Referral Form )

Wildlife Rehabilitation: Is It For You?  - A booklet that describes many of the basic requirements for wildlife rehabilitators, including time, commitment, space, access to funding, knowledge and skill, working with a veterinarian, and relevant state and federal permits. The booklet addresses some common myths about wildlife rehabilitation, such as loving wildlife qualifies someone to be a rehabilitator, wildlife rehabilitation is a hobby, and that the government pays for rehabilitating wildlife.
